CNC Design Guidelines

Best practices for designing parts optimized for CNC machining.

Wall Thickness

Minimum recommended wall thickness is 0.8mm for metals and 1.5mm for plastics. Thinner walls may cause vibration during machining.

Holes & Bores

Use standard drill sizes when possible. Maximum depth-to-diameter ratio of 10:1 for standard drilling. Deeper holes may require specialized tooling.

Internal Corners

Add internal radii of at least 1/3 the cavity depth. Sharp internal corners require EDM and increase cost significantly.

Text & Engraving

Minimum font size of 5mm height for engraved text. Use sans-serif fonts for best results. Recessed text is preferred over raised.

Undercuts

Avoid undercuts where possible as they require special tooling or multi-axis machining. Standard T-slot and dovetail undercuts are achievable.

File Formats

We accept STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs), SolidWorks (.sldprt), and Parasolid (.x_t) files. STEP format is preferred for best compatibility.
